CHLORINE

Chlorine

Chlorine is a very strong irritant. It causes nausea in a lot of people. Bleach is highly concentrated chlorine. But even in low concentrations chlorine is still a potent irritant. Professional swimmers wear goggles not just to see better in the water but also to protect their eyes from the burning effects of chlorine. Adding chemicals such as chlorine obviously isn’t the best solution to disinfect water. But that’s not all. Chlorinated water can also cause:

  • skin disorders such as eczema
  • weak or damaged hair
  • dry scalp and dandruff
  • cognitive decline
  • fatigue
  • respiratory and pulmonary disorders such as asthma
  • breast, bladder, kidney, colorectal, liver, pancreatic, and skin cancer
  • Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • miscarriage, stillbirth, and birth defects if you’re pregnant,
  • early infant death
  • stroke
  • heart disease
